Hidden away, just steps from Old Salem, is the Historic Brookstown Inn. Established in 1837, the Fries families combined 2 cotton mills, 50 years apart. Keeping generations of this family, the innovators for the creation of Winston-Salem. Throughout the years, there were many uses for the building. But, as it was restored and opened as an inn, the architectural elements from the original structure have been preserved. From the exposed brick to the wooden ceilings, it is just part of the character of what Historic Brookstown Inn is today.
Traveling during a pandemic, can be stressful. First, you must find out what the mandates are for the area you are visiting. Then, you must understand, the guidelines for that specific establishment, But, from the moment you arrive at the Historic Brookstown Inn, the staff helps create a stress-free visit. Starting with the directions for a no contact check-in at the front door.
There are no amenities offered during your stay. For instance, a complimentary glass of wine or cookies and milk before bed. Also, there is no housekeeping. But, if you need anything, the staff will be happy to bring it to your door. The Historic Brookstown Inn are ensuring your safety and health. And it is in the details, that they are creating a safe environment for their staff and guests. Which, as a mother, lessens the anxiety!
We had the pleasure of staying in the Old Salem Suite. A bi-level suite, with all the old world charm. As you enter onto a spacious landing, you can see the beautiful living area. A pull- out sofa, a kitchenette, a dining table with chairs, and a desk. All the comfort for a traveling family.
The other level consists of 2 plush queen-size beds. The bathroom is decorated in marble with plenty of towels, wash clothes, and shower accessories.

As we walk around the luxurious grounds, we were greeted by Sally, the Historic Brookstown Inn resident cat. She is cute, friendly, and my daughters wanted to take her home with us!
The Visitors Center was closed, due to the Corona Virus, but it is adjacent to the courtyard. A perfect place to sit down and relax.
As you can see the Historic Brookstown Inn brings the old world charm into our modern day living. A special thank you to the Historic Brookstown Inn and staff. We had a marvelous time, and I guarantee you, WE WILL BE BACK!
